How to find the longest word from your letters

  1. Enter your letters in any order. Add a question mark (?) for each blank tile; for example, STREAM?NG. Each blank can stand for one letter.
  2. Choose a minimum word length, from two to five letters. The default is three.
  3. Press Find words. Results are grouped by length, from longest to shortest, and alphabetically within each group.
  4. Select a length button to focus on words of that size. Choose All lengths to see every match again.

Find anagrams using every letter

An anagram rearranges letters to make another word. Select Use all letters to show only words that use your entire set of letters. Leave it unticked to find shorter words as well.

For example, STREAMING can be rearranged into MASTERING. Both use the same nine letters, once each. Try the example button above to explore more matches.

Repeated letters count

Each letter can be used only as often as you enter it. For example, finding LETTER requires two Es and two Ts, as well as L and R. Entering a single E will not make a second E available.

About the English word list

Scrabbleator searches 253,026 unique entries, including British and American spellings, plurals and other word forms. The expanded list draws on the openly licensed SCOWL word lists. It includes uncommon and dialect words, and some abbreviations, so a result may be unfamiliar.

This is a general English word finder. It is not an official Scrabble dictionary or a guarantee that a word is accepted in a particular game. Check the dictionary used by your game before playing a word. Read our word-list sources and selection notes.

Word finder questions

Is this word finder free?

Yes. You can search without an account. The word list is loaded into your browser and your searches run there.

How many letters can I enter?

Yes. Enter ? for each blank tile. For example, CA? can match CAT and CAR. You can enter more than one blank. Highlighted letters in results show which letters use blanks. Other punctuation, numbers and spaces are ignored.

Why are there no results?

Try reducing the minimum length or unticking Use all letters. A word may also be absent from our list: no general word list includes every possible English word.

Does it work on a phone?
